Windows 7 vs Windows XP on Asus eeePC 1000HE

Tuesday, 01 September 2009 12:00

From the article "Why do I believe that XP is the better performer for my eeePC?  Well, for one, it is the OS that the 1000HE was designed for.  Much of the hardware, especially the intel chipset is old, real old in computer years.  The 1000HE has long battery life, but in exchange for that and a relatively cheap price, Asus has compromised performance by modern computer standards, so my 1000HE is performance-challenged right out of the box.

One of the first things I and many others do to improve performance is upgrade the RAM to 2GBs.  The second thing I did to improve performance was to upgrade the harddrive, and the third was to overclock my 1000HE by modding the BIOS.

Pretty much the only thing left was to figure out which OS was gonna get the most performance out of my 1000HE.  I used Ubuntu from Hardy to Jaunty, from Easy Peasy to eeebuntu, and what I found that worked the best was Hardy, but Windows XP always played videos just that little bit better, and watching videos was one of the main purposes I bought my eeePC for in the first place."

Windows 7 has been tested on a lot of netbooks so far with nearly all bloggers from all over the world being positive about it. But, the question is: DOES WINDOWS 7 BEATS WINDOWS XP in terms of performance? SIMPLE ANSWER: NO
