MSI lead the way with Pine Trail-M netbooks in December

Wednesday, 19 August 2009 09:38

PC vendors including Asus and Acer have all already developed Pine Trail-M netbooks, but most of them have agreed to follow Intel's schedule, so will MSI cause Asus and Acer to release their Pine Trail-M netbooks at an earlier date?

What is Pine Trail-M

Under the name Pine Trail-M Intel is the second generation platform hardware systems designed for mobile and desktop end very economical, and expected to debut during the month of October 2009 as the next platform Shelton'08, arrived on the market in the first half of 2008.

The platform Pine Trail-M is based on processor Pineview, always made a 45 nm (as the predecessor) and yet to be marketed under the brand name Atom.
This processor is a small revolution in the CPU as it will be a System on a Chip (SoC), which will integrate not only the core of development (in some versions will also be dual core) but also all the other systems such as the chipset, the graphics subsystem and the controller of memory RAM, in a single chip.  Probably the Pineview processors will be marketed directly soldered to the motherboard and cooled by a passive heatsink, at a cost of about $ 50.
